The advantage of the dealer is that it will be done right, regardless of how many times you take it back. Good luck going back to an Indy after 1000 miles and showing uneven wear and asking for 2 new tires. I second that most MB dealers are now using lasers, not spreader bars, and that you want the shop foreman or elder, not some 24 year old kid who wasn't born when your car rolled off the line to align it.

I think we need to clarify that when most of us say dealer we are talking about an MB dealer.... in my case, because the Ford dealer meets my expectations for all my alignment needs at a reasonable price, I have them do it.
