I found out. The front Axle Spindle threads are 18mm by 1.0 (thread pitch).

Metric threads are piece of piss to find out - measure the OD and the distance between each thread in mm.

I have a Chamber/Caster Gauge that comes with a magnetic base. But, on my W123 with the aluminum wheels there is no place it would fit. The I saw that you could get separately adapters for go Carts that thread onto the axle. So I made one on my Lathe for the Mercedes. It is a steel cylinder with one end drilled and tapped for the Axle threads and if I remember correctly threaded and tapped for the Chamber/Caster gauge. They way it works is cumbersome because you have to remove the Axle Clamp Nut. So I simply screwed the adapter in till there was no play in the bearing. When I am done I had to adjust the bearing end play.
