I saw the coolest thing today...a 300td with a

560sec drive train. The wagon was a nearly flawless black with tinted windows. It looked better than I remember them in the show room in 1985. This guy owns a repair shop in Santa Monica and did the exchange so he could pull his boat. I will try to get pictures but trust me it was cool.

Did he get it smogged, or is he just not telling the DMV its been converted? Trouble is it can't be sold in state like that unless the changes are approved by the smog police.
I've seen a white 300TD with a MB V8 in it. It looks like it shoehorned in pretty easily.
I can't understand why anyone would go to all the trouble of putting in a gasser engine as a good running 617 turbo will pull a normal sized boat.

In CT, "Repair" plates will allow just about anything to be driven on the road, even more carte blanche than "Dealer" plates. I wonder if that's what he's got on it.

Just curious, does every vehicle in CA need to be smog checked? We're lucky here since everything pre-emission (some early emission-not sure what the cut-off is) vehicles and earlier diesels never get emissions checked once it's registered. Once you pass the vehicle inspection you can put pretty much anything you want in them.

Yeah I am guessing a 5.6L V8 is going to EASILY pull a boat vs a 300 diesel....there's just a LOT more power in that v8. That'd be a FUN car. If it will fit into a wagon it will fit into the sedan! How about a W123 560e anyone?

I'd rather to figure out how to tweak the diesel a-la the crazy finns.
For awhile now I've been thinking if my wife gets pregnant I'll have to get a wagon and start tweaking. Intercooler, IP modification, etc...

What does a pregnant wife have to do with tweaking a wagon?

Doesn't one kid fit in the back of a normal car?

I was going to say it's not the kid that takes up all the space, it is the associated stuff with the kid that takes up space. All that fun stuff like the play yard, diaper bag, diapers, extra sets of clothes, etc..... It is for that reason that my wife insisted that we get wagon and not the sedan.

In CA diesels are smog exempt so they don't have to go through the bi-annual smog check. I think than gas vehicles 1974 and earlier are also exempt.

What about a 560e bi-turbo?

I think at that point some other upgrades (brakes....wheels....tires....suspension...) would be needed.

I saw a guy that was putting a 6.9 in a W123 on this site awhile back. Now that would be a wild ride!
