Mitisubishi diesel question

I recently bought a Mitsubishi 1999 Fuso FG, medium duty truck. Does anyone know how do the glow plugs function on this engine? Should they be coming on every time I start it? I don't have an FSM so don't know how to diagnose any problems that might be there. On Mercedes, one bad glow plug will typically cause the glow plug light to go out. Does something similar happen with the FG?
Engine always starts right up, but winter is approaching and I want to make sure I'm prepared.

The Mitsu and Isuzu engines I've worked with have always been extremely good at cold starting on the first crank without waiting for the glowplugs. The bad side to that is if any had a bad glowplug it was obvious right away the first time it got below freezing.

I believe they use a temperature sensitive timer similar to the later MB systems. I'd get out the 'ol VM and see what they do at various temperatures. Worst case, you can always pull them out and test their glow with a battery.

Kerry,

We own a `93 Fuso FE truck. I believe the engine is DI, the glow plugs only come on when below about 40F or so. Its a really great running engine and a great truck. We have a 12' steel flat bed dump on our's.

Does the glow light come on just at 40 degrees or below? I think we have the same engines in our truck. Mine has a service body on it and I'm adding a camper to it.

Yes, it only lights when its cold outside. It always starts very fast no matter what temp.
