c250d sport 1994 L reg heavy fuel leak
Hi just joined and hoping someone can cast some light on a problem. The car recently ran out of fuel no i wasn't driving my son was .As far as i understand it he put diesel in and restarted the engine without reference to the hand book and now i have a heavy leak near the injectors.I am wary of using a merc garage for cost reasons and would appreciate any info as to the possible problem.I understand from someone who had a look at it that 3 cylinders were holding about a litre of fuel each.It is possible that the injectors are damaged but then again that may not be the problem.I have a mechanic who will look at the car on Friday but he isn't overly familiar with mercs.Any help will be appreciated thanks

Welcome
Mate,
I suspect your MB spends most of it's time in the UK? (We never got the C 250 Diesel over here) You have the OM 605 motor? 5cylinder,20 valve, double overhead camshafts? 'Nice Gentlemen here Always helpful: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/ Also,I'm having trouble wrapping my head around a "Out Of Fuel" Restart damaging the Injectors? If Offspring didn't follow the "Factory Restart" ,What did he do ...AND how much "Help" did he have? Do your fuel lines have the Plastic Clip Connectors on the ends? They are prone to Leak ,if you so much as glance at them. AND 3 out of 5 cylinders "Holding a liter of fuel each". What's that all about? [If you try to start one of these Diesels with a Liter of fuel present in the Cylinder...It'll "HYDRO-LOCK" and tend to bend the connecting rods] (I don't believe you can fit a liter of fuel in the cylinder?)

I'm More than a little concerned
about how a restart, damaged the fuel delivery system.
'Can you separate the details of what, specifically, was done to "Restart" the engine... [I'm cringing asking this: 1. Ether (AKA "Starting Fluid") 2. 'Someone took the hard Injector lines loose and tried to force fuel "Wait a Moment" 'Picture this:Injection Pump reservoir,Secondary Fuel Filter(Spin On),Primary Fuel Filter(In Line,Smallish,Clear or opaque) ARE ALL DRY AND EMPTY AS THE ENGINE HAS DRAINED ALL THE FUEL. The Unknown Entity who attempted to assist in the "ReStart", "Cracked Open" (Loosened) the "CapNuts" that secure the Hard Injection Lines (On top of the Injectors) to make it easier for the Lift (Mechanical) pump to get fuel to the Injection Pump AND Injectors[AND so that fuel could finally be seen when the "Prime" was restored to the fuel system]. 'Said Unknown Entity either: 1.Did not properly "ReTorque" the "CapNuts" (Result- fuel leak) 2.Loosened the "CapNuts" too much, and in attempting to reattach them "CrossThreaded" the "Capnuts" onto the Top of the Injectors. (Result- fuel leak) If Either one is the cause...it is repairable. If #1 simply properly retorque. If #2 'chances are the threads inside the Capnut are boogered and you may need to replace the Hard metal line(With Capnuts on either end) Hopefully the Steel threaded top of the Injector is O.K. #54 in the Pictogram below is an example of the hard metal injection line. Let me Know!

That engine ought to be self priming.
It probably has leaky braided return lines.
