This thread had got me wondering. My TD always starts rough even though all GP's test ok. I may have to pull them out and give em a check.

JonHef,

Here's a hint to make engine run smoother when starting: after engine starts, turn key off and on quickly. This will cause the GP to stay on another 40 seconds (like later models do) and the engine will run smoother quicker.

I did the GP check , they all turned out fine. i removed them all last night and checked them all. One of them was dead, the rest were fine.

Cervan,

U mean U checked the resistance of the GP when they were in the engine and they all measured good but then U took them out of the engine and applied 12 volts, one was open circuit?

Did U remove the GP cable from the GP relay when U measured the resistance of the GP with them in the engine?

im sorry im tired. I did the ohms resistance test, all showed Ok i tested them from the glowplug harness to the engine (ground) and they showed 6-10 ohms each. So i removed them and hooked them each up to my battery charger, 3 of them glowed cherry red and one of them didnt even get warm to the touch. But the odd thing is that it still was not an open circuit when i tested it again with my meter.

Cervan,

Something is wrong with your resistance value readings. The GP resistance should read 0.6 to 1 ohms.

Yeah you should be seeing right around 1 ohm- mine were all 1.2 to 1.3 through the unplugged harness to the battery neg terminal. Maybe Ill pull them out next week, too busy putting in a new dash, speakers and radio in it tonight
