Brand new 300D Owner :)

Hey folks, I'm now a proud owner of a 1984 300D. I flew out on Friday to Richmond,VA to visit a buddy of mine and to buy the car from a buddy of his. I paid $800 for it, then drove it 600 miles back home LOL

It's in need of front suspension work, but I absolutely love this car !!

Engine used NO oil on the trip, and has 285k on the clock. It needs the following items:

I had a link somewhere with inexpensive rebuilt parts, but I cant find the link.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Congratulations on the purchase. $800 is a great deal for a car you just drove 600 miles.

Make sure to post pics ASAP.

As far as parts, call Phil at the Fastlane and AllPartsExpress links at the top of the page. He can get used and rebuilt parts not listed in the online catalogs. Plus you'll be supporting this great forum (which without many of us wouldn't be able to keep these cars on the road).

Make sure to put your car in your signature and your location in your profile so other members can help you better.

Sounds like the MB obsession/addiction is taking hold of you. Just wait until you do some successful repairs.

It seems to take everyone about a year to get their MB's fairly well worked out and then they begin looking for another one.

The only thing I had to deal with is trying to steer a car that felt like it ran on rollerblades. Good thing for cruise control, I went to 60 and set it. Smooth sailing

Hey bd1308 --- welcome to the forum. Louisville, huh? I use to live there......in the "old" part.

Anyway, don't believe everything you hear from Chad, even though he is a good guy on here --- IT didn't take me a year. I got the obsession/additction in much less time.

LOL. daw is a "special" case. He dove in head first and collected as many MB's as he could find.

Welcome.

When I bought my 300D earlier this year, the rear suspension was toast...I sort of knew that it was in bad shape, but had no idea the difference it would make when I put on new shocks...it was like driving an entirely new car. Purely awesome.

This is my first MB, and my first diesel...so it's been a steep learning curve, although I've been loving every minute. I cruise Craigslist every night, looking for my next purchase.

It's like cocaine, man....

My last car I really enjoyed was my project 1974 Porsche 914--I welded up rust spots, did three engine swaps in the backyard (in the mud), and dropped a fuel tank in the middle of my dorm parking lot (when I was away at college)

It was a fun project, but nowhere near what the Mercedes will bring I'm sure.

Oh...one more thing...this forum is awesome. Never seen a problem that someone else has not seen here. Simply amazing. Be glad you found it (I stumbled onto the site by accident - it's been a Godsend).

Sounds like you have some solid car project experience. Your w123 will be another great experience for you.

come on now, post some pics.

Atleast your cruise works, most of us don't have that feature.

Most of the time these cars can look like crap, but still run like a champ.

BTW- are there any fellow MB enthusiasts in my area (KY/IN/OH) ?

I may need to make a few friends around the area if I ever have real bad issues--
