definition of an Italian tuneup

I thought an Italian tuneup was always done with the driver/owner, 3 large men as passengers, and a mountain road. Load passengers, apply full throttle while climbing mountain. How about some shots of all four "tuners". Ron

PS This works best with a 220D. Other models may have enough horsepower to require backing off the throttle up the hill.

No, Its like "drive it like you stole it", drag each gear @ 4500 RPM for 30 Seconds and make sure that your put a lot of additives before you do the ITU (italian tune up)

It's when you take an old V12 Ferrari with 6 Webber carbs and run the living snot of out it on some back roads or on a track. They would carbon up if driven around town, causing the plugs to foul and run rough.

On modern cars its just done for fun, except it works quite well on old diesels.

When I do an "Italian tune up" I usualy pull to the stops in 3rd which is 83ish mph. Here is crappy 0-60 run I did on a crazy hot day. Yes the outside temp guage is quite accurite, it was well into the triple digit range that day!

Here is the def of italian tune up in wikipedia:

"An Italian tune up usually refers to a process whereby the driver of a motor vehicle runs the engine at a very high rate in order to eject carbon buildup from the combustion chambers. It is often accompanied by an addition of fuel system cleaner to the fuel tank."

10.5 to 60 averaged from a G tech. MB says 12ish from the factory.

As the title said that was a bad run, plus it was 100 and humid out.
