I keep hearing the MB batteries are only $5 bucks more, but based on my research there should be a 0 after the 5!!
Autozone Duralast battery is up to the high $80's, and I was quoted about $130 last time I checked on an OE MB battery.
Optima's are probably the best, but they are about $50 more than the MB battery!

**forgot to mention: I just had to replace the battery in Smash, and it was a Duralast from 2001! Not bad......**

I vote for the Duralast. I have had no problems 4 years running in what I call a some what extreme temp range.. . 115º ambient in summer and 20º ambient in winter. The car can get past 130º plus in the summer time.

Besides, I like the red and black color...

Thumbs up

My Duralast bought for my 1984 300SD on Oct. 13, 2001 just gave out on Oct. 11, 2008. The engine started, but the starter was slow. The battery was just low, Autozone said. The new battery cost $98. Still under the 7 year warranty, I got 17 cents towards the purchase of the new battery at the 2001 price of $68.

Is this the black or white one? My current battery is a DieHard Sears model, manufactured in 2001 never had a problem though, but I'll probably soon have to shop around...

I heard the black one is the more expensive of the two...?

Around here the Duralast group 49 battery is now hecho in Mexico.

The Bosch group 49 battery appear to be identical to the old style (Johnson Controls) Duralast, except it costs a lot more.

Its the white one, I paid $142 to roadside assistance for it. It has a "Made in Spain" sticker on it....

Optima batterys are great, but they have a tendancy for shorting out very easily. I would rather just buy an interstate that i bought with my car, thats 7 years old. I bought the car and the battery had allmost no water in it i threw some distilled water into it, charged it . and it actually outlasted my ac/delco battery! ive ran that stupid thing till it was dead, charged it and it still keeps on kicking.

the carbon ones are very popular in the honda world, since they are so small they are usually relocated to the rear of the car (from the front) and they are lighter, plus they give more power. Ingenious little batterys.

87.99 + Tax at Autozone for the Group 49 battery, and $87.56 for the White MB battery at the dealer (with an account, of course).
