With tax and everything my Duralast was almost $92 bucks. That puts the MB battery at $50 bucks more expensive which is 50% of the cost of another Duralast.
I guess "not all that much more" can be subjective enough.....
They sure do look cool, though!!!

Anybody know how much those batteries are with the MBCA discount??

What is involved in getting "an account", and I'm guessing that is different than the MBCA discount?

Thanks to all for the many replies/opinions/suggestions... I was on my way to Auto Zone (about 6 - 7 miles away) to check out their Duralast batteries when I discovered that there's an Interstate Batteries store just a few blocks from home. Out of convenience, I stopped to checked them out and walked out of there with their top of the line Mega-Tron Plus (is this a cool name or what?) 30 months full replacement and 85 pro-rated. Ratings; CCA-1000, CC- 850.
Judging from the responses, there are many good choices out there...I just hope I made the right one for my car - only time will tell.

My .02 on batteries..... (and I worked for General Battery / Exide for 15 years)

My personal preference for batteries is one that stays 1: dry and clean, 2: has a good service life, 3: you can buy one when you need one.

My personal option is..... Johnson controls currently makes the best US manufactured batteries. Sears Diehard, Interstate, there isn't much difference.

Years ago, General Battery was #2 to Johnson Controls. GBC bought Prestolite (which made good batteries), then was bought by Exide. Exide was fine, but... some executive issues brought the company become bankrupt. Then Exide bought Gould. My chances of buying an exide (yes, no caps on purpose) battery on purpose are between slim and none.

For locally manufactured batteries..... Deka (East Penn Manufacturing) makes a good battery. And I think that Douglass Batteries are fine.

There is no substitute for a good Bosch or Varta battery, but personally.... I won't pay the premium to get one. It cost money to ship them, and that money would be better spent 'here' instead of 'there......

So.... go to Sears.. and just buy a Sears battery. That is simple enough. Or, Interstate is close enough. Anything else for me is a distant third choice.

More like $143, thats what mine cost, I got it from MB of Cincinnati....installed by roadside assistance and everything. And that was 1.5 years ago. Either way, I gotta have my MB battery.

Maybe if you pay retail!

Last battery I bought for $105 in 2004 from the dealer, I think I'll replace it this spring. So my dad can have a new electric trolling motor battery for camping.

Car batteries are poorly suited to applications like trolling motors/deep cycle. A car battery is designed with many small plates in the cells, this high plate density vs. battery acid enables the battery to provide huge output for a short amount of time, and then charge back up very quickly, which is what happens when starting a car. A deep cycle battery is meant to be steadily drained and then recharged, they have less plate density, so they are well suited to drain-situations and it does not damage them. You'll notice an equivalent sized marine battery vs. car battery has less than half the cranking amps rating, but a higher Amp-hours rating.

Moral of story, don't use a car battery for camping/boating, it will kill it in short order....

How are you paying below retail prices? Are you friends with a parts dept. person? MBCA member?

Genuine MB Battery Inside
Engineered like no other battery in the world.

Having owned and driven diesel MB's for 40-years (and our two current MB's since new), I've tried just about every battery out there and the best I've found is the Interstate Megatron Plus 850.
Diehard used to be outstanding, but they stopped making the Group 93 batteries and now only have a substitute that is a 750 CCA.

Go there, show them your Tax/Resale Certificate, and fill out a form saying you have a repair shop (which I do), and get the discount.

heres a list of Ratings by Brand for Group 65 for reference...

And heres who makes who as far as batteries...

I know that, and I don't care how long it lasts because its an old battery. If it lasts 2 years that will save me from having to spend $100 on a deep cycle.

They hold up pretty good actualy.

The parts counter guys hook me up.
