Beautiful car but...

I don't get it, he says the car has been serviced at the dealer its entire life. So, why does it have the dreaded green coolant
For that price, everything better be darn perfect...

It certainly looks nice but IMHO, $17,600 is too much. Put 50,000 miles on it and the depreciation would be outrageous.

Agreed... and not with a broken windshield washer reservoir.
I am aghast that the air filter housing is specked...

Although, could you imagine how nice it would present with a top-shelf deep cleaning and first rate detail...that is minus the back to black treatment and armor all shine on the rubber.

Even so, this one looks as nice as any I have seen in the last couple of years.
Though it is still a mite pricey considering the age...well maybe not if it were to be museum bound rather than a driver...

Interesting

Folks,
I have noted several cars that that particular seller has posted over the past several years......all looked very nice, and were very pricey !!! My guess is that he picks them up from either the local MB dealership, or the folks at the Naval Academy......he lists several cars a year......and is making a very nice living.....

Why has the radiator been replaced by a Nissens? At 44k miles the original one should have still been working properly unless something went wrong along the way. The fan shroud also does not have the stickers on it anymore so it's also been replaced.

What also happened to the radiator support - the decal that specifies the vacuum diagram is missing. The refrigerant sticker on the right side of the same radiator support, in front of the air cleaner, is also missing.

Also got curious why there are only two rear headrests, there should be three if there's a 3rd row seat, which there seems to be none...

Something isn't right here.

The seller is friends with a guy on the MBCA website; I posted on there as well the price of $17,000+ should taken and run away with. I can't imagine what he's asking, but for for all the "issues" that car has, he should be extremely pleased with the $17k for it. Some people, even when holding gold, can't believe they're not getting diamond pricing. Fool.

Looks like overspray on the tie rod ball joints (in the picture from the passenger side). I also don't like the gap on the back end of the rear passenger door. Is the hood pad with the aluminum over the turbo original? Other than that I looks great.

Astute observations. The missing decals (and the perhaps also, the original radiator are gone) because either there has been a wreck, OR an overzealous detailer accidently scrubbed them off.

I lost a decal that way, (due to overzealous detailing in 2002) and then years later saw the same one on a wrecked W126 at a junkyard, on there, and so I wrote down its part number, then ordered the decal for $7 from the Mercedes Benz parts department at the dealer. Fixed that.

As for the Nissens, maybe the old radiator got clogged up, or it had the unreinforced upper hose neck crumble and needed replaced, it is over a 22 y o car after all.

I note the 2002 service sticker on the door from the Mercedes Benz dealer in San Francisco, (I was just there several weeks ago)
which suggests the car may have been possibly garaged from new there, little used cause so many people walk and use public transit there, and the car would be totally rust free if that is so.

The reason the car sold for $28k is that when bidding hit $18,100, a furious bidding war erupted between two bidders, the eventual winner a brand new ebayer with zero feedback (who the seller better hope has the money to pay!) wanting the car at ANY price started.

Perfect storm for the seller.

The perfect and detailed closeups of the car also really helped a lot to sell it.

It looked like an immaculate car.

That's above and beyond JGS's selling prices.

If you look at the image of the underside where one of the chassis rails is shown by the driver side front wheel, there is a hole seen underneath the chassis rail. This hole is usually plugged so I'm guessing something must have happened to it to cause the cover to be removed.

I am guessing it's been in a wreck before based on all these observations. They're all related to the front section. Also curious why the seller has no images of the aux fan area...?

Even the other side has the same missing cover...?

For that amount of money the car be better close to mint condition! Oh well, it's a nice car anyway. I hope the deal is closed happily on both sides...

The zero-feedback bidder could well be a shill bidder. We'll see if it's re-listed in a week or so.

That's nuts!

It probably was a shill bidder; the account was registered yesterday.

But still, that's CDI money we're talking about there!
