need help, 3.0L V6 engine

I am trying to install a oil pressure gauge to this engine, in a 2008 Winabago view, on dodge sprinter chassis. The winnie is 2008, but all owners manuals indicate that the sprinter is 2007. I have the dodge service manual from chryslurrr publications, on CD. This was a major waste of money, the only good info in it, is the torque specs...

This manual vaguely shows a sketch of the engine, with an arrow towards it, claiming there is an oil pressure sender screwed into the front of the oil filter housing. This engine does not have one. It seems the dash idiot light must be attached to the oil level switch in the oil pan. Where can I tap into an oil gallery for this accessorie guage? I am considering removing the oil filter assembly and drilling /tapping a 1/8" pipe thread to install the sender.

Has anyone here been down this trail ahead of me?

That would work fine.

There is also a banjo bolt in the turbo's oil supply line that can be drilled and tapped.

Are you sure of adding any additional length to the turbo's oil supply line? I'm just saying I think it would be wise to not tap into the turbo oil supply line.

What difference would it make adding 3' of 1/8" line (about 5ml of oil) when the pump already has to fill/pressurize the far larger volume of the oil system?

more possible points for a leak/rupture.

I'm going along the lines of, "don't compromise a system that if fails will not be cheap"

It wouldn't be any more of a risk than using the oil filter housing. Don't forget that our W123 oil system uses the same oil source on the filter base as the turbo feed.

The turbo also has a 2mm restriction orifice. If a 1/8" line fails there is more than enough excess volume in the 8mm supply line to make up for it.

I can't imagine that there isn't an oil pressure sender somewhere. Have you visually inspected the block?

oil sender?

I have inspected as much of the block as I can visibly access with a mirror from all angles. I have removed the heat shield from the turbo, there are no exterior oil supply lines to it, the turbo is fed via internal oil ports in the mounting base.

I personally can't fathom an engine with no oil port that I could screw my test oil gauge into to check and verify oil pressure, but the folks at the local chrysler dealer as well as the local Mercedes dealer do not seem to know of one.

Oil loss is not an issue, due to ease of routing to the dash area, I am using an electric pressure gauge, Teleflex, from the marine catalog, with matching single helm sender.
