Well, I pulled the vacuum off ip shutoff valve and no change. I'll post here when i find the problem. I'm comforted in the fact that no one is sayings "It's the IP."

Do not get too comforatable yet. If you can move the injection pump control arm to the halfway point or above and there is absolutly no change at all.

Hold it in that position for 15 seconds. If there is still no change especially to the amount or colour of smoke out the tailpipe. Something may be going on in the pump itself.

I suspect you are getting enough fuel to the pump as it will go wide open when you totally advance the lever. Pick and pulls and general salvage yards make even a bad injection pump an affordable item if it comes to it. Lets hope it is something else. Yet keep an open mind. Can you feel your cigar hose pulsate? At idle, and when you are holding the arm halfway open or more?

Thanks all for replies. Looking at this again. I drove it by my favorite local shop, Erol's Autobahn. He looked at it, turned the alda scew a bit and that helped a great deal. I don't know which way he turned the screw. With the engine warm i get a lot of power now. When it is cold it is still pretty slow.

Anyway, i am ignorant when it comes to the alda system and these pumps and have a lot of reading to do. In the meantime, I see that from the banjo bolt on intake the hose goes to some electronic valve, then to the alda. I cleaned the banjo bolt and thought that was going to fix it initially as it was completely plugged.

Could the problem be with the electronic valve there on the firewall between the alda and banjo bolt? When you say take the alda off, do you mean back the screw out or literally take it off altogether. If bypassing the Alda system fixes it what are the next steps?

Thanks

It was a ALDA

Removed the alda. There are some really good alda threads here. The thing runs great. It is pretty normal to take the alda off of these old 617s to get better power. The 85s especially do well since the pumps run leaner.

I've never driven a 300D so fast. Now the idle is too high since I had adjusted way up to compensate. I may put another alda on sometime just to see if it runs good like that. Maybe that old one got gunked up or something.

Thanks all for the help..

The alda also does overboost protection, so you need to do something about that.
