sweet! did you ream out the bores?

i guess strategy of replacing only a few makes sense being that you didnt have to remove intake. Might as well save some $ for other stuff

I found it a pain to do my 5 cyl without removing the hard metal injection lines.
I also decided to change all 5 at once.Bosh and beru are good plugs.
stay away from champion and autolite plugs or you will be doing the job again soon.

glow plugs in 86 sdl

I have been reading your posts on this topic. As I bought this model about 4 months ago and its my first diesel I have no tools as yet and I need to change my GPs as 5 of 6 are bad (ohms test). what size wrenchs do I need to remove intake manifold and GPs and wire nuts? not ready to buy a full box of tools yet. have 1/4 & 3/8 drive ratchet set for US sockets.
thanks for any help and any links to how-to wit pics
suprised it still runs (when temp is over 40f) with 1 GP good?

If you're going to replace only #5 and #6, I suggest you leave the intake manifold in place and instead remove the cruise control actuator for access. I don't remember all the tools involved but you'll need a 5mm hex bit for the cruise actuator and a flathead screwdriver to pry off the ball-and-socket linkages.

edit - Oops, I read that as #5 and #6 are bad. For the manifold, get long ball tip hex bits. The intake manifold bolts take a 6mm bit but you'll need 5mm for the job and 8mm, 10mm and short 12mm elsewhere in the engine. Note how many fuel injector line clips need replacement.

Phil or dealer can provide these parts.
