How do you adjust a Neutral Safety Switch
I had problems starting the car and replaced the NSS. Without luck I towed it in and my mechanic adjusted the neutral switch and it works. what kind of adjustments can be made. Ray M

I'm not sure what trans or car you have soo lets start there? haha.
There is a slight amount of adjustment on the switch I believe on the older diesels. Maybe you just didnt have the plug in tightly enough? |

on the 722.3 and .4 it's held on by a couple of bolts that take a 10mm socket. One bolt, I think the top bolt goes through a slot in the NSS so you can twist the NSS.
The typcial adjustment procedure is to have someone observe the back-up lights while you move the NSS. Set it so it's at the middle of the range through which the back-up lights are illuminated. More precise would be to do the same exercise with an ohm meter at the starter wire. Make sure the shift rod bushings are in good shape before adjusting the NSS. NSSs can wear out or develop internal corrosion. Sixto 87 300D |
