If the check valve is stuck open, it acts as a bypass so there isn't sufficient fuel pressure to the injectors. The quick check is to clamp the return line to the fuel tank, the rubber hose from the fuel filter block to the metal line on the fender, and try to start the engine.

I think this is the problem; I had 'looped' my return when I experienced what I initially thought were fuel flow problems, after the head rebuild I unlooped it to expel air quickly and of course now there is no pressure at all, Doh!! I'll get a new one and post the findings. Thanks again. David

Ordered said part along with washers ect.. £40 ouch! even the MB dealer thought that was expensive -
