California is such a Diesel hating state....... They won't even allow the blue-tec E-class here because it "doesn't meet standards" yet I see tons upon tons of old junky gassers throwing out clouds of exhaust. And if i'm not mistaken, doesn't Gasoline emissions harm the surroundings more than Diesel emissions?

Can't wait to move to Texas, a Diesel friendly state

Its called saving my wallet at the expense of other peoples.

CA should just outlaw people, then the environment will be clean.

If your running your business right you shouldn't have any profit at the end of the year.

Maybe, They should ship all of the good that come through CA to the rest of the country through OR or WA. Let the people of CA pay the higher charges from all of these new rigs. The cost of everything is up,this will send it up more, and people are out of work more every day it seems like.
Big Bro. is going to tell you what to do, and if you do not like it go to .....
And will this push the new diesels I have hoped for, further out of wanting to come to the USA?
Not good in so many ways....

I wouldn't worry too much about no new diesels. Mercedes, BMW and VW all have 50 state compliant diesels available for sale here now. Honda is bringing at least one and possibly more for 2010.

For now, there is a "three day" exemption for out-of-state trucks that non-compliant with the 2010 model year CARB Regulation to run in CA.

As of today, there are no retrofits for older cars. But diesel-powered vehicles manufactured after the 1997 model-year of a gross vehicle weight less than 8,501 pounds are to have biennial smog checks adopted from an earlier regulation.

Our Cars

Do you suppose the CARB will go after our diesel cars? Damn, that
was one of the major reasons I wanted a diesel, although now I just love
the car for it's own sake. I love not having to get a smog check. Not so
much the cost, but I really resent the government making me physically
do an errand boy run for them. Brings up thoughts of the old western movies when the badguy shoots at a poor jokers feet, dance for me boy! If I can sell my Jag, then I'll be out of the smog check garabge completely. It's not enough that they take a good part of my income,on top of it I have to run errands.

Actually from what i have heard is that the port of long beach is/was the driving factor to push this(or because of them). Now it appears that most of the cargo will now diveert to Washington state, Oregon, Texas and so on. Most national trucking companies will pull out of CA for good.

Well I can't think of anyone in this country that doesn't benefit from the commercial trucking industry, I think even the Amish probably shop at stores that have things brought to them by truck. Mexico is building a big container port on Pacific coast and running a highway up to Texas specifically for trucking, its a big issue in Texas from what I've read. I think the truck builders in this country have been dragging their heels like the auto industry, no wait their the same companies. Have to be dragging kicking and screaming to modernize. If California would just get it over with and have one big forest fire from one end of state to other and go treeless they might have some cleaner air, I don't know how they expect to have cleaner air if they keep having these piddling little burns every year, no wonder its so smoggy out there.

It is nieve to think that these emission standards will not be passed along to the private sector in the near future. Commercial vehicles are always the first to be targeted because they consume more fuel and natuaraly pollute more than any car owned privatly...i hope you can undestand my sarcasm.

how many cars that can pass the emissions standards that were applicable for the year that they were built have been forced off the road by California for not passing more recent emissions standards?

my guess is zero.

the proposed diesel smog tests for California now under review by the BAR will likely include models 1998 and newer.
