240D tach

Hi there, I am new to the 240D world, I have a 82 that is turbo charged, I am told it performs very well compared to stock. My question is: Can I add a tach?, It does have cruise control and i see wires coming from the front of the engine near the crank, is this a sensor?

Yes you can add a tach, but you're going to need some parts, wiring harness, that are not made. So you'll need to find a donor. That wire coming from the crank sensor will need to be replaced by a wire that is available new. You'll need a mounting bracket, used, an amp, new. A two prong tach, used.

First pic is of your current set up, won't need it.

Second is of the sensor wire available new.

Third pic has the female part that screws to the bracket, used. The black two pronged female plug you'll need, used, that plugs into the back of the tach. The white end is the new sensor wire, it fits into the opening of the round used part on the left.

The fourth is the three wires coming from the harness, 3rd pick left, brown is ground, the other two splice into the same colored wires coming from the tach plug.

Fifth is the back of a cluster, on the left is the tach, with clock, note the two male prongs.
