Power Steering Fluid

I have 1990 350 SDL. Are there any special requirements for the power steering fluid? Thank you.

As an aside, if you didn't know, there is a filter in that reservoir. If you've never changed it, there is no time like the present.

mekanic, I believe you're isntalling a new pump. Might as well flush the old fluid from the box before it gets to the new pump - http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/PsFluidFlush

When I start with a dry pump, I fill the reservoir and turn the pulley by hand until the fluid in the reservoir stops bubbling. I'll give it 20 turns, wait 5 minutes, another 20 turns, etc. until turning results in no more bubbles. This doesn't bleed the system, it just gets fluid through the pump before it turns at cranking and idle rpm. Probably completely useless but it fits in nicely with cleaning and putting away my tools

Thanks a lot, Sixto.

I got the W-123 CD-Rom Service Manual and the least cost PS Pump, I used STP PS fluid. Thanks for your help, it may have saved me over a thousand bucks and the guidance encouraged me to carry on rather than pay someone else. Happy Holidays and thanks again.
