My wife loves her 240D, fact is, it was her that insisted we buy it. Shes not wild about having all the parts cars around tho, I tell her "If your gona drive an old car, have lots of em"

Remember, most women are emotionally driven. Economic reason be forgotten. It's about what they want. Now, my gf has said that I can have whatever cars I want, but she wants a Ferrari F430. At least she doesn't want it all at once. I told he not to ask me to maintain the ferrari. I would put oil in it, but that's about it.
Whatever I do, and whatever I buy is my business. If the amount is over $2K, I just have to let her know.

About 7 years ago I had a 1983 240D as my daily-driver. This was around the time my wife and I started dating. It was a beautiful car; signal red with palomino MB-Tex. She thought the car was too loud, too slow, and kinda old. But she accepted the fact that I liked old cars, and diesels in particular.

Well we got married and, quite naturally, the 240D began a gradual decline. The Michigan winters finally took its toll on the car and rust was spreading, the transmission was slipping, and a terrible pothole messed up the suspension. My mechanic said there was enough oxidation that a new transmission might fall out eventually. My wife encouraged me to sell the car before it became too unreliable. So I did.

At the time the only really nice older MB I could find in the area was a 1990 300CE-24; a nice car, but not a diesel. I looked for a 300D 2.5 turbo or another W123, but no luck. So I bought the 300CE but always had my eyes open for a diesel.

Well I recently and came across a 1995 E300D. It was a one-owner car. 100,000 miles on it. All the books. I couldn't pass this up; I'd wanted a E300D (W124) since it was new back in 1995 and Peter Egan wrote a review of it for Road & Track.

But my wife couldn't understand why I wanted to buy a 13 year-old used car. She kept telling me to buy a new car. It has 100,000 miles for god's sake she'd tell me. I told her I wanted a diesel, and she said BMW is selling diesels (she drives a new 328xi). I told her I'd rather buy a well-maintained, used E300D than a new BMW diesel.

She finally relented and let me buy the car. She even likes it. But she reminds me it'll be my car for the next 5 years...believe me, I plan on driving it for more than 5 years.

Boy do I long for my single days when I could look at any cars I wanted to, and buy a car without her permission.

Gee, thanks! My wife works graveyard, and I just laughed hard enough to wake her up. Now I'll have to go buy her flowers or something!

That was really funny, though.

YOU don't want to know. Ask me some night about my ex-wife; she was a great house keeper. She kept all 4 of them. I can joke about it now.

My wife (current) just asks if I can make money with the purchase. Smart woman.

Any color preference? I know where there are 2 local ones.....that could be bought. Both are on my "target" list.

My disease, no-cash-itis prevents any purchase at this time, unfortunately...Any color but white. Sorry Jimmy! My favorites are cabernet, blue, black, then silver or gold.

My wife, for whatever reason, puts up with it. I just drug home a 91 350SDL because it has a decent (#17) head, but once I got it home, realized that it HAS to be back on the road again. It's too sweet to part out. Now I'll need ANOTHER parts car I guess....

I tell her the donor cars are just like organ donors. "After all, I am a recipient of a cornea transplant" I say. She responds "Yeah, but you didn't keep that cadaver around!"

Gotta love her.
