Exclamation Do I need a new catalytic convertor or not?

Noticed a small exhaust leak sound today and I narrowed the sound down to a rusted connections between the Cat and the pipes leading to the middle muffler. Based on these photos, can I have the connection replaced or am I looking at a new CC?

I was going to bring it in to a muffler shop tomorrow and I wanted a little heads up on this issue.

Thank you.

George

it looks like it has an O2 sensor it might need a new one, but then again it would be helpful if you told us what year and model is your car...

I think that a 1995 E300D might have a O2 hooked on that cat but then again let me research...

As intriguing as that sounds, I don't want to veer from the regular set up of the vehicle and have resale issues later. Out of curiosity, does the straight pipe replace the entire exhaust system or just the CC and/or middle muffler?

No issues, if You'll ever place Your car for sale here, I am sure most members of this forum would appreciate straight pipe. So as long as Your car is well kept and worth the asking price, this should be no problem

I prefer the muffling effect of the cat. OE is fine if it's in good condition.

My indy welded it for $70.

Doesn`t look like you have much to weld to. can`t weld rust.

I agree with the straight pipe, and enjoy the benifits of a better running engine. then down the road if you decide to sell it, replace the CC then.

Might find a good used one off a wreck. I know here in Kali land, can`t buy a CC out of the JY, even it it was just replaced by the PO.

I second that! My car has been awesome since I went to a straight pipe! I've had it on for over 1.5 years now....they're also super easy to protect from rust. I coated my whole pipe with about 2 cans/4 coats worth of high temp grill paint, and it has no rust at all.
