Loud Thumping From Rear
This problem has been happening for a few months now. I'm thinking that it is most likely had axles due to a torn CV. The thumping comes and it goes, but it is really annoying and sounds horrible. It never seems to happen until I have driven the car on the highway for about 2 hours, then it starts (sometimes), it is a thumping that seems to increase with increasing acceleration, but when you let of the gas (still in drive) it stops completely. I'm thinking that it is probably a bad CV joint (especially since one of them recently ripped, but I refilled with grease and duct taped/saran wrap/zip tied back together). Most other posts about bad CVs seem to report that the noise does not stop when coasting so I just wanted to make sure my problem wasn't likely something else. I think I'm probably going to refill all the cv boots with lubricant. I used black grease (the all-purpose kind that you pump out of th little tubes) because I when I went to the local Mcparts they said there was no such thing as CV joint lubricant. Should I be using some other type of lubricant. I hope a re-lube will solve/lessen the problem because I have neither the time or $$ to replace axles and I need the car to operational. Thanks
