Nice adapter! Really nice.

Not crazy about the copper piece. Creative, but not dependable, and too time consuming IMO. (Just input, not trying to be a peckerhead)

Take your grinder, or even orbital sander with it locked so its not obital and sand, or lightly grind on the pipe to make a clean spot and just clamp your ground on.

Or, another thing you can do is get a small piece of scrap sheet metal, and clamp your ground onto it, then just tack weld it onto the pipe, maybe even one of the areas that you've welded. When you are done, just grind it off.

got my exhaust situation solved yesterday. I connected the muffler to my down pipe with a piece of flex pipe from the local auto parts store. I wound up using 2.5" flex pipe but I used 2.25" clamps. I hung it with universal exhaust hangers from summit.

well, I'm about to head out to bellville, which will be my first drive of considerable distance with the new engine.

well, it has become later in the afternoon than I wanted it to before leaving, and now with daylight savings time I'd driving back in he dark. So I've decided to scrub the launch.

You mean I've got a finger cramp for nothing?

Probably a good idea. I much prefer initial long-distance runs to have as much daylight as possible. I might be a night owl, but I don't have the night vision required to fix a car in the dark.

I've been driving around all afternoon, taking a few short video clips with my digital camera. I'll post them in just a minute.

first impressions: I love it! but its definitely a little on the slow side. however, I will reserve final judgment until I've done the basic "tune-up" for this engine, which from reading on this forum appears to be:

* adjust valve clearance
* check / adjust timing chain stretch
* check / adjust IP timing

also, I've read about the phenomenon of "nailing", and I think my engine might be dong some of that as well. rebuilt injectors are definitely on the medium-term to-do list.

ok, for some reason these are taking forever to upload, so I'll go ahead and post this message incomplete while they are uploading, and edit it later to include the urls as they finish uploading.

the first is my favorite. this is what the driveshaft looks like while accelerating.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqWwUC3h3VU

here's a clip of the oil pressure gauge during acceleration. you can't really see gauge all that well, but each large demarcation is 20 psi. So, you can see it start from about 20 psi, climb to about 80 psi in first gear, then drop down to about 50 after shifting into second.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Giq9au3KVa8

I am actually quite surprised at how low the oil pressure gets during idle (I'd guess its at about 18 psi). Is that normal?

here's a clip of the boost gauge during acceleration. again, its pretty hard to read the gauge, but the large demarcation is 0.5 bar (~7 psi).

url

clip of the vacuum gauge as I come to a stop. the needle is constantly bouncing around, most likely because I don't have any sort of vacuum "reservoir" (just tiny tubes).

Looks like you're making some good progress. Where did you post about your driveline adapter? Did I miss it or what?
