newbie questions

first how do i work the temp controls on an 85 300d ?
also which light on the dash is the glowplug light? it has been hard to start lately requiring me to step on the throttle to get it started?
also the blinkers are acting weird some times i will turn them on and they will just light up no flash or noise?

Temp control should be adjust the little wheel to blue if you want cold and red if you want hot, if you are talking about the auto function it might not work. The glow plug light will be the light on the far right of the light bar at the bottom of the cluster. will look like a curly pigs tail kind of. You might need to check all and yes I mean all of your fuses and replace them, then you will need to check and clean/add dielectric grease to all the relays and such in the front of the car this will fix many problems and lastly replace bulbs if none of the above work. will take some time but will cost very little and will be great peice of mind. The glow plug problem go to DieselGiant.com and read his great glow plug repair section. (this website is good for all sorts of stuff) Lastly use the search function. Good night and Good luck (ohhh and for future reference you might want to put more specifics about the hard to start problem, where are you at is it cold?)

It was in with the owners manual and maintenance manual plastic booklet holder when I got the car. It was originally a european delivery, so perhaps the US delivered cars didn't get them...or most likely, they were tossed.

It's wrriten in German on the flip side

for your turn signals... put the emergency flasher on a few times... that usually takes care of the turn signal problem. but if not, you may have to replace the flasher relay.

The glow plug light is orange in color, and looks like a long pig tail.

Ditto on the emergency flashers, they use the same relay as the turn signal indicators.

Seems that I recall my turn signals not working once. I was preparing to delve into this problem when I (thankfully) noticed that the emergency flasher was not fully off or on. Punched that button and have had turn signals ever since. I wish everything was so simple.

Isn't the flasher relay up under the console on those
'later' 123s, Thats where it is on my Euro 85. Forward of the shifter and to the left.

GP relay is on the left front fender, towards the headlight housing.

Its that black box about 3x5 and 5 inches deep, pop the top and theres a strip fuse inside, which is handy to know about, get a spare.
