Transmission Shifts weird after adding synthetic oil

Ok, so just went over to the lighter weight 5-40 weight Rotella synthetic. Is this a common problem when changing over to a lighter weight oil? I have checked all the vacuum lines next to the filter housing and nothing is disconnected. So I just ask the question is this common. I know where to find how to adjust the tranny so I just want to know if this is a common issue.

Are you saying you added 15-40 in your transmission or in your engine?

ATF goes in a automatic trans, and some manual trans.

Adding synthetic to the crank case shouldn`t affect the trans shifting.

When I started using synthetic engine oil the engine seemed to run smoother. there wasn`t any change to the way the trans shifted.

I am not stupid, I know that. I added 5-40 Shell Rotella in the Crankcase and the transmission is now taking a longer time to shift into gear.

Taking longer to shift is not a function of vacuum. Maybe you disturbed the bowden cable.

And the forum will be the judge of whether you're stupid

Yes it is very common. Every time you disturb a vacuum line, the transmission shifts hard. I've done it at least twice that I can remember. You can put 0W20 or 20w50 in the engine and the transmission won't care.

The 81's are non turbo's and don't have bowden cables.

Synthetic is slicker which means the engine takes less power to turn (reduced friction) and you're using less throttle to accelerate the same. The difference is small, but its there.

It really is taking alot longer to shift then normal, most of the time if you want it to shift you can let up off the throttle a little but now I have to let it all the way off the throttle to have it shift.

Check all the vacuum lines near or over the oil filter housing.
Follow them up to the valve on top of the Cam cover.
Make sure rubber on the valve is nice and tight to the lines as well as any other rubber connectors

as was said above if the vacumn is reduced the car will take longer to shift up and the oil filter area is a great place to start to look for a line that had been bumped into and dislodged - jz
