jet4power ask for info. After that it is a freedom of choice issue. I think the main condemnation of the mode is simply how it looks; it looks very iffy. While it is clear that the mode needs tighter ID hose and T Bolt type clamps to make it better; how would the worst possible thing happen? 2 clamps hold each end of the hose on so I doubt if it is possible for the hose to slip off. The hose has a 300 psi working pressure which is more than double the actual Oil pressure so the hose it self is not going to burst. I guess it could leak under the 2 clamps but I coated the barbs with Silicone Sealant before I slid the hose over the barbs; no leaks so far.

I think it's a decent idea. I'd like to see an example of the kind of improved hose clamp you have in mind. Would heating up a 1/2" hose allow it to expand enough to slide over the barbs? I've installed a number of transmission coolers over the years, often on transmission lines without barbs and haven't had problems. And, as you point out, aftermarket oil coolers use similar connections.

However, the hose I used is not very elastic and partly because of not enough room (and the extra labor) I did not want to attempt to do any cutting on the tubing. So, I do not know if that would work. T bolt type clamp which I believe would awnser the clamping problem.

This is the same problem I had. I did some internet searching and I did find I believe it was 2 places that made clamps that would fit but I did not need a box of them and none of my Emails were answered as to who sold them locally. (They always ask for a Company name; if you do not have a company I guess they are not interested in you.) Sometime last year I found that the local Truck Supply place had some but not planing to remove the ones that I have now as they do not leak I did not buy them. This Thread got me to thinking about the clamping problem again and I went to the Truck Supply store with the intention of buying them and it appears that they no longer sell them. However, I did not ask them. It may be that some Hydraulic supply places or Marine supply places sell them. Please let me know if you locate a retail source at a resonable price.

When, and if, it leaks at the fitting will be an interesting observation. Write back in 10 years and let us know how its holding up. |
