w124 - how does turn signal housing mount in?

Hi,

I lost my driver's side turn signal housing on the highway about a month ago...
After getting the Depo lights, and breaking a tab on the turn signal, they were having trouble staying locked into the headlight housing.

Can someone tell me if there is a correct way to secure the turn signals? Or are they solely locked into the headlights by the tabs? My other turn signal is zip tied to the EGR solenoids, but this was done by the PO and looks like it isn't the way it should be

If they are like the lights on my W126 the two tabs hold the front in place, and the screw knob holds the back in place. Without the front two tabs it wouldn't work properly.

Someone will know this for dead certain and post a picture, but IIRC there is a single tab, and that is all that's holding it in. I put a non OEM fender and new OEM headlight on my car (fixing a deer hit) and the tab on the turn signal did not fit well into the whole assembly - it had to be massaged a bit.

Thanks, guys

Besides the two tabs that go into the headlight itself, I am mostly trying to figure out if the longer tab that is below where you plug it in plays a role..
The one I lost seemed to be missing part of that tab, and the other one I have has a hole drilled in it for the zip tie (which actually works fine, but I want to know how it should properly be!)
On the longer tab I speak of, there is a metal clip type of thing..does that serve any purpose?

The w124/w201 turn signal lenses just snap into place on to the headlight housing "tabs" that hold them in.

Just make sure the two turn signal tabs insert into the slots in the headlight housing for a good fit.

just swapped mine....2 tabs on the side slide into headlight housing and a tab on the back locks in when you slide it in all the way...there was no other tabs or mounting that I saw.

Ok, sounds like that metal clip might be some kind of locking mechanism, since it is under pressure. I took a look at the area that the turn signal housing goes into (which I am still waiting for in the mail) and it looks like you are right about it locking in, since there appears to be a very small lip that might act as a restraint.

I feel like it is a silly thing to be asking, but I really don't want to lose another light on the highway! The way I had it set up before obviously had some flaws

There are two tabs or blades that slide into the side of the headlamp assembly.
On the other side, there is a metal spring-loaded plastic clip that engages the rear edge of the opening on the fender.

I had the same problem, twice. Its easy for the tab not to catch properly, or to release while you are driving if everything isn't aligned just right.

I snapped it in place and glued it with a little bit of shoe goo. Its nice and solid now and I can still remove it if I need to.

Yes, that is the one!
I just got it in the mail yesterday, and now it makes sense. I was missing that clip from both, so I never knew it existed! Makes sense now.

However, now I need to get the piece that holds the lightbulb! The guy sent an empty housing. Oh well, explains why it was only $10

Should be an easy part to find.
