"Lost" in the FSM

Can any body help me find my way to the (Mechanical)Vacuum Pump R+R instructions for 602/603 type engines?

Thanks, so very much!

I thought GSXR went through this. Here a link to his site:

http://www.w124performance.com/docs/mb/other

I saw a few files that might relate. Or, Perhaps an advanced search with his name in Diesel Discussion?

Interesting.

It's not in the 603 engine manual. But, I found a reference for it in the R&R of the timer. Supposedly it's in section 43-610. I did find R & R of a vacuum pump in the 126 chassis manual under section 43-618, but it's for the 617 engine. The supplement at the rear of the book doesn't show anything for the 603.

KNOW I've seen them, and I almost swear in a MB format.

43-0618 is referenced in the IP timer section but is not to be found in the 124 CD FSM. It's in the 126 CD FSM but it's a single pager with nothing of value -

Preliminary work:
Remove visco-drive fan coupling

V-belts ... remove (only on engine 603.961)
Vacuum line [to brake booster] ... screw off, screw in, counterhold on threaded fitting
Hex. head bolts ... screw out, screw in. Remove vacuum pump together with seal.
Vacuum pump ... check for proper function

Cripes, not even a torque spec!

Thanks

Yeah,
I ain't touching that baby without Torque specs for re-installation!

Look at what I found in the Instructions for testing vacuum pump on a 603:

WTF kind of "Modifications" can be made "For Cost Reasons" that don't degrade
the Durability/Longevity of the Pump??????

Are we now looking at a situation where a known "Good" used VP of the "Improved" version
[Screws/Bolts in the face of the pump AND enclosed Bearing race]
is a safer bet than a "Brand New" one from Mercedes or Pierburg (Same-Same)?

Vacuum Pump,I'll be going...

Agreed. My paper copy of the FSM "Service Manual, Diesel Engines 602, 603" refers to section 43-613 as Sixto says but that section is not in the manual.

Likewise, there is no discussion of vacuum pump R&R in the "Introduction into service" manuals, 1984 and 1985 (Engine 601 and W201 body– many features of the OM603 engine were first seen in the OM601) and 1986 (Engine 603 and W124 body).

Very strange!

I thought this was about being lost in the Federated States of Micronesia.
