I used to in my 85 500 SEL with an 83 SD engine and trans,

I cant talk as to the rpm as I never did bother to get the tach working.

Performance wise I could not notice the difference between it and an 85 SD, but with my 83 300 SD it has more lower end but as soon as its moving you wouldnt notice.

I averaged 28 MPG over 60K miles.

Used to? What happened to it? Sell it? Crash it? Tired of it?

Do a search..........there's several threads on this topic by the people who did it.

Breckman99 did the job originally.

There's also a fair amount of interchange with the W123/124 platforms. I'm running the 2.47 from a W126 in my 240D. Gets great highway milage, even with the 3.0L transplant

Sold it to a guy who wrecked it, then I took the engine out and put it into an 82 380 SEL for him.
