While I have an active thread, I wanted to say that when I first engage the clutch from a stop, there is a lot of shuddering if I try to engage it with high engine rpms, and also with high rpms, it takes a noticable amount of time for the clutch to fully engage. I think I need a new clutch, but also, I want to know: If I replace the clutch, do I need to replace the pressure plate?

In general its best to do both, how was your flywheel and pressure plate sufaces? did they have any blue spot or streaks? does the pressure plate look like it has the 240K miles? how deep were the rivet holes on the clutch? These cars dont get raced about, I would bet you could have original equipment parts there

Well, I actually didn't check it, figuring it would be more trouble than it's worth, considering I didn't have the money to replace it right then and there. And I was wondering why exactly the pressure plate needs to be replaced. What is worn out about it?

springs and surface, in the old days you could get them rebuilt and resurfaced, but these new ones are made different then the old days so I am not sure if they can be rebuilt

Alright, that makes sense, I just didn't want to replace it if I maybe didn't have to. And I guess it could be original, I'm the third owner and the previous owner didn't mention anything about the clutch being replaced.
