IP/Fuel Delivery Problem...
I have an 1982 240, I've owned it about a year. Previous own had the IP, Motor and Tranny rebuilt about 150,000 miles ago.
I have been running my vehicle on a 50/50 blend of highly filtered WVO and Diesel. Two days ago I began losing power on the way home from work. My primary was plugged. I had purchased a strainer/water separator and replaced the primary filter with this filter. Worked fine for a day. The 240 acted like she wasn't getting enough fuel. I purchased a new primary and installed it. She fired right up, then sputtered and died. I replaced the secondary filter...made sure she was primed... NOTHING. I loosened the No.1 fuel injection line off of the IP and NO fuel comes out of the IP when I crank her. Is it possible the IP has "gone out"? Seems odd that this would happen so suddenly. ANY help, advice would be GREATLY appreciated! |

If you found the primary filter plugged, the tank strainer might also be plugged.

Ditto what Jeremy5248 says. I had a similar problem and it was the tank strainer.

Tank Strainer?!
If I use the primer pump I get fuel to flow TO the IP.
I understand the strainer may be plugged, but don't see how there would be NO fuel flow FROM the IP. |

By-pass the tank completely and get a container with clean Diesel Fuel and disconnect the Fuel line where it connects to the tubing that goes back to the tank. Run a longer hosed to the primary filter and into the container of Diesel Fuel. Change the Secondary Filter; If you think the Secondary filter you removed is OK put it in a Zip Lock Bag for re-use later.
With the new filter on loosen the Banjo at #2 in the pic and pump on the hand primer until fuel with no air comes out. Afterwhich tighten it up and continue to pump on the hand primer until you hear the buzzing sound of the air being purged from the relief valve on the side of the IP. After that loosen all of the Hard Line Nuts up at the Injectors and crank the Engine and see if you can get Fuel to come out of them. If you Fuel comes out tighten them and see if the Engine will start. If the Engine does start and after it runs awhile I would let only Diesel Fuel stay inside of the IP overnight to disolve any gunk that might be inside.

Is it too cold for the 50/50 mix you are using?
