Wow!!! Got my AC fixed today!

Well I am officially ready for Houston's swampy miserable summer!!

I bought a new compressor, drier, and expansion valve for about $300 out the door from O'reilly. I bought 13 cans of R-12 off craigslist for $100

My local mechanic charged me $300 to install everything and give me a warranty. He used about 4 cans of my private stock of R-12.

Folks, this AC works UNBELIEVABLE!!! Cools down instantly and cycles between 35-40 degrees at the vent!!!

Sooo....just north of $600 to fix the AC RIGHT!!! I am happy!!

Yep, these W123 AC systems are awesome!!! {In the middle of winter!!}
We'll see how well it does this summer, but with what yall did and using R12, it is about as good as these get.
Good price and warranty from your indy.....

Perhaps R12 and a dark window tinting will stop you from completely soaking your shirt with sweat in the Texas heat. Its time I do that for Ol' Turbo. The Defiant's fantastic window tint has converted me.

My first trip to Texas in Ol' Turbo it was equipped with its original compressor with R134. This was in March, so it wasn't too horrible. Shortly after the trip, my compressor locked up, and the replaced with R12 instead. Still not quite enough for my July trip to Texas. I was wondering why Jimmy was so quick at the Centerville meet to leave the BBQ place, and claim a spot in the shade...

This year I'll be running to my car before anyone else, as well.

I Houston, AC is a way of life. What a change!!! We moved back here a little over a year ago from Orange County CA......hell our home did not even have AC!!!

Anyhow, I have thought about tinting the windows. My Jag has tinted windows and it is great. I just wonder if tinting the wiondows will change the "classis look" of the 123???

I was driving ther 123 the other day with some friends and he said he felt like he was riding around in a fish bowl with no tint!!

Down here you have to tint the windows. It not only helps the AC with heat intrusion but it helps your interior to last longer and skirt the sun damage for a longer period of time.
Car doesn't lose the classic look and I think it looks better.

If I ever need any more windows tinted I will continue to use the place Ralph recommended to me. They did a great job on China, especially compared to the place that did the White Wagon and the Squash.
Luckily the E300 already had tinted windows.....
Ralphie was nice enough to wag me quite a ways out of his way while the windows were being tinted, and even sent me home with some coffee! Methinks he's alright.......

Post Time For A New.....

Mechanic ! .

You got ripped off as it only takes two cans of R-12 tops .

I just did my old 1980 300CD Coupe , it's 65° F inside it in Death Valley , I love it .

I love your W-123's colors ! .

You don't need that dark tint , in fact the best UV blocking is from tint only slightly darker than the stock EZ-EYE glass....

'course if you like the Ghetto look and police eyballing you , go for it .

I doubt he used all 13 cans at once. I think he did it himself so he probably used 4 cans and has a stash sitting in the garage.

And if the A/C system is empty, it takes more than 2 12oz cans to fill it. My SD holds 2.9lbs. I believe the 123s are a bit less than this.

So 2.9lbs x 16 oz/1 lb = 46.4 oz

46.4 oz/ 12 oz in 1 can = 3.86 cans for a fill from empty.

I kind of like the "fishbowl" effect on older cars... the windows on modern cars are so much smaller, you can't see out as well.

A darker fishbowl is fine. 35% on the front and 20% on the back dorrs and back glass do not look ghetto IMHO. The tint shop the did my car and Jimmy's, did manage to break out the back glass on my car. They paid for a replacement and a new seal. They are in Greenville, Tx.

JimmyL is a great guy...he even brought me a speedometer from an '85 for the still upcoming rear diff swap...

The Squash was waaay too dark!! It was 5 or 10% on the back windows and whatever is legal on front. Andy has already removed it from what I understand. You could not see out at night at all!
I think Ralph had it on China: 35% on front and 20% on rears and back. I will look for the receipt and change my data if incorrect.
Don't go with the very dark limo tint! Except maybe wagons.....
