i just took the cover off the diff and used a torch once it was out, since it had to come off any ways. i was replacing the half axles

I'll heat it with a torch and use the jack to help persuade the breaker bar.

I don't know if it was the correct way, but I used a breaker bar with a cheater pipe.

done! put car up on ramps, set 14mm hex socket with breaker bar in socket, used floor jack to push up on the bar and it came loose without much issue.
Oil didn't look so bad, really. Other than some dark brake fluid, I've generally found that the PO took pretty good care of the car and did recommended maintenance. I replaced with 75w90 Mobil1 Syn. It took a little over a quart. |
