Steering Wheel Puller
Do I have to go out and buy a steering wheel puller to switch steering wheels? I've never done it before and probably won't do it again so I don't want to go out looking and spend the money on one. Is there a way to switch it out without one?

You should be able to rent a puller at your local autoparts store - most of the larger chain stores have tool rental programs...

Ithaca! I know the home of Odysseus well. I'd come home if only Calypso wasn't so hot!.
Anyways, most chain autoparts stores should have one for loan or rent. Check the tools for loan here, but by the time you've shipped it both way, you might as well spend the $15-20. Even the craftsman tool is only $20 at sears. You'll also use this tool for dash R&R, heater core / evap R&R, front seal R&R (you'll pull the balancer with it).

I took off the wheel on my car and all I had to do was slide off the center pad, it just has a lip that goes over the metal base so just peal it off. Then look in the center and there is an allan screw, remove that and the wheel pops off by pulling it with your hands. I almost hit my self in the face with it because I thought it would be harder to get off and I hit it hard.

You don't need a steering wheel puller. Just a 10mm hex socket and big breaker bar... Preferably an impact wrench (to break the locktite seal it's in there pretty tight). Once the the 10mm bolt is removed, the steering wheel slips right off.

Yep, X3. They are fairly easy to strip without an impact, so be careful.

when tugging the crap out of it put the bolt back on but do not tighten it. this way it does not slap you in the face when it breaks free.

Yea I was expecting it to be a lot harder to get off so I hit it hard with the palms of my hands and it flew off.

I had to use a puller to remove the steering wheel from the delorean, I tugged and beat on it and nothing. Plus the puller from autozone didn't have the same threads(plus the threads on the bolts were screwed up anyways). I had to get some threaded rod in the same thread, 6mm, and some other fun things to make it work.

I was able to do it with a standard socket and ratchet.

My impact gun wasn't strong enough to break the loctite. I had to use a long breaker bar. And the wheel just comes right off once the screw is out. No puller needed.
