Good to hear of a mostly happy trip. The sending unit in the tank is the probable culprit.

better off...

reinforces my feeling that this country would be better off if every teen did two years of "service" to the country. boot camp for everyone.... it helped me a lot.

Walking isn't a lost art: one must, by some means, get to the garage.

Hear hear, mandatory military service for all...

I know there are some that manage to stay punks even after boot camp, but the great majority that I served with were much less obnoxious than the idiot kids I see wandering the streets locally.

How about mandatory service as a requirement before running for an elected office? Certainly the Commander in Chief should have served at least through boot camp.

I served 13 months in Vietnam and I'm only mildly crazy.

The Military can be sort of a half way house to adulthood if you do not get unlucky and end up maimed for life.
I was fortunate and not sent to Vietnam; others were not.

While I could see drafting people in the present state that our Military is in as a temp measure to relieve the what must be by now "burned out" combat troops.

I otherwise do not think people should be forced into the Military.

I also miss the society that I grew up in (I am 57) that did not let Kids get away with much so that they did not become "punks".
