Replacing tail light in 1982 Mercedes 300SD
I was wondering if someone could tell me the steps to replace a left rear brake tail light (also left rear flasher light doesn't work, not sure if its the same bulb?). The vehicle is a 1982 Mercedes 300SD.
I would really like to do this myself if possible. Thanks for any advice! |

Just look at it, you'll figure it out easily. Just a couple plastic nuts holding the bulb assembly in. Make sure you get the correct bulbs, wrong ones melt things over time.
If simply changing bulbs doesn't do it, knowing how to use a multimeter to troubleshoot, plus keeping dirty contacts in mind (if something mysteriously doesn't work even with a good bulb), should be all you need. |

Look at the inside of the trunk behind the light. There are two obvious large black thumbscrew-like clips that you turn 90 degrees. The whole light assembly comes out and the bulbs are simple to change out.
When replacing don't exceed the original wattage figures. Check your license plate lights at the same time. There are two of them. If one is out it isn't obvious inside the city with plenty of lighting around but out in the country a police officer can spot it literally a mile away. Luckily I just got a warning It never hurts to carry some spare bulbs around. If one goes out and you are stopped it goes a long way towards giving the impression that you care about the safety of your vehicle. |

1985 300SD. Does the tail light lens assembly on a 126 separate into two pieces like the 123? My driver side b/u (clear) lens is blackened with exhaust residue and I would like to wash it. This was easy on the 123 but the 126 lens seems to be glued together.
Thanks

There is a gasket like material on the 126, so you shouldn't get as much soot inside. I broke a couple of the plastic pieces which house the metal threaded rod.
