80 300sd shift too soon

Hi,

My 80 300sd shifts at 2k rpms from 2nd to third and third to fourth. I tried taking all the slack out of the bowden cable. Still has the same problem. Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Brent

im pretty sure you don't have a bowden cable. I think you have a control rod(linkage).

Did the adjustments you made make any difference at all?

Not really much difference if any. So is there something else I can try? Thanks.

do you have a rod, or cable type tranny control? Make sure you weren't adjusting the cruise control cable.

the cruise cable comes out of the cruise control actuator which is mounted on the right fender well. It is a round cylinder looking thing with a cable coming out of the end, LOL.

Thanks 79mercy

The part I was adjusting is on top of the engine and goes down to the passengers side of the tranny.

Thanks again

the shifts are soft jumps from second to third at 2k which drops the rmps down to 1800. Then it shifts to 4 at 2k.

I'm right in saying that the adjustment is ontop of the engine right?

Have you tried putting a few more turns on the control rod beyond the point of removing the slack?

I actually bent the mounting bracket to take up the slack. there wasn't any room to adjust it before.

Thanks,
Brent
