LSD is rare on the 6-cylinder E class. It is included in the diesels with ASD, and the 4matic, but otherwise very rare.

I'm going to have to find myself a LSD diff for our 300E someday....it'd be nice to not have it get stuck as easily in the winter....especially with the wife driving it....

This will not work unless your 300D had one before everything about this is computer controlled and there is a pump on the engine that engages the lock.

Does that mean just your 87 "e300d", 90 "e300d", and 94 e300d? Is your 94 a non-USA version car, as MBUSA did not offer a E300Diesel in 1994?

LSD wasn't even on the option list for the '87 300D (which I think he means by "e300d").

Newbie here

I just was recently told of this forum as an alternative to the more known forums, where people know more about polishing their cars than working on them. Nice to find some more tech related people here.

The E class Mercedes never really had a Posi from factory in anything except AMG models. ASD and ASR came in everything, only the old 190's has a true mechanical limited slip in performance model cars. E430's had a larger rear but no limited slip. Other model benz's had a electric hydrolic adjusting limited.
I seriously wanted a limited rear for the same reasons as mentioned. I found that there is a company who offers a kit that they install in the carrier which makes an open rear into a limited. I have to get the paper I wrote the info on out from my car.
I bought, in preparation a rear center section from a E320 to install in my car while my E300 rear is shipped out to be modded. The company charges $500 to do everything. I bought two E320 rears (that was the deal) one for myself and I figured someone else whould be interested in one not to be without a vehicle. I paid $100. for the pair, and would sell one for $50. + shipping. After getting my rear back and installed, I would sell the second unit. The difference is that the E320 has a 2.87 gear in it and the E300 has a 3.07 gear.
If anyone is interested
Please reply
Thanks

I don't know for sure, but thought that LSD was available in sportline cars. Maybe not.

Anyway, the ASD is a limited-slip, but has the additional hydraulic lock. Same with the early/Styre-Puch 4matic rear diff. II think Dave has used the ASD guts to swap in and have an LSD in one of his 124 projects.

thanks I kind of figured there was more to it I am completely swapping the suspensions from the sportline to my 300d and was curious as to whether the rear end would be better .Is there any harm in putting it in anyway .

If both diffs have only one ABS port at the pinion, that part is okay (Sportline has no ASR), and neither diff has hydraulic fittings on it (300D does not have ASD) it seems like it should swap.

The 300D IIRC has a 2.65:1 ratio, what is the 300E ratio?
