Look, instead of spending $$$ to fight he decided to take $$$$. Nothing wrong with that.
But, the more I contemplate the "Peach" thing, the more I certainly hope that it is temporary, and was just easier to transition to.
What do we refer to ourselves now? Still Mercedesshop? Do we have Mercedesshop GTG's or Peachparts GTG's?? I can tell you, the last one ain't happening.
We should be "Benz" something. I've never like the "TriStar" stuff. Sounds like a movie company.
FIX THIS PEACHPARTS THING PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

**edit**
OK, here are some that are available:
* Benzfolks.com * {my favorite}
* Benzpartssource.com *
* Benzownerscommunity.com * {wordy}
But you get the idea!!!!!!

Actros617 04-04-2009 02:19 PM

Here is a decent one...

benzshop.com

The more that I think about it, the more it sets in that this new name really stinks!

See if FAILcedesShop.com is available.:P

PanzerSD 04-04-2009 02:30 PM

I wonder if the MBCA is going to suffer the same fate...

JordaanDMC-12 04-04-2009 02:38 PM

Peachparts?

Why not happybunnyparts.com or fairlylandparts.com

-.- wow....

PanzerSD 04-04-2009 03:17 PM

Well, folks we ARE stuck with Peachparts.com :( as per a response I got from Bill. All we are doing is wearing out our keyboards :(

I think that the "Peachparts" could be a lot worse, and it doesn't really sound gay.... trust me, when I first started reading this, I giggled a bit, but no, not gay, I would know. :o

I feel that a lot of us can't live without said forum.
I've already changed bookmark, which also means changing homepage... ugh.
anywho, mercedesshop, er, peachparts, will survive. ok?

PanzerSD 04-04-2009 04:12 PM

I feel I must retract my usage of the word "gay" to describe the new name. It's local slang for anything silly, crazy, or out of the norm. No derogatory intent was behind it.
but as Matthias pointed out; The forum will go on.. crazy name or not. It doesn't change the quality of expertise found in this forum nor will it change my loyalty to this forum.

Let's not decide on a peach colored theme, however. :D

Dreieckigerstern.com would be a more correct name but there's another one as well that escapes me. Yours, as is, means "three star" vs three stars "drei Sterne" neither of which is what I think you mean..

Peach parts? sigh.... oy gewalt

My German is of the 'babelfish' variety :) "Drei geizitger stern" it tells me is "three pointed star".

All the above are currently available....:D

Give me a while, and I'll come up with some more....:o

BUT, as has been said, These may be just TOO close to Mercedes-Benz to keep the inscrutable Germans happy....

(Even though they 'stole' a female name for their car in the first place!)

So, We are stuck with the 'Unusual' Peachparts.com....

Aye, Could be.....

Checked the owner of mercedesshop.com and peachparts.com.....

Mercedesshop.com owns peachparts.com.....

Plot thickens....

vstech 04-04-2009 06:52 PM

um, in order for the mercedesshop.com redirect to work, they have to own the name... they will however sell it or remove it soon... I will miss it, but I'll get used to peachparts.com I guess...
heck, it's easier to type anyway.

JackG 04-04-2009 10:31 PM

Oh Great, I can just see the new grill badge:rolleyes:.

Not really. For an April Fools gag, it needs to be carried out on April 1st. The 2nd, 3rd or 4th might as well be November. ;);)
I certainly hope it is. Certainly the forum owner can't be misguided enough to think the Peach-thing is a good business move, which of course is the primary concern.
Does this mean if we get parts from Mrs. Smith's that the name will be blacked out here on the forum????

Oracle12345 04-04-2009 11:39 PM

turbobenz 04-04-2009 11:59 PM

Bummer. But PEACHPARTS??????

LOL

pawoSD 04-05-2009 12:14 AM

Think of the search engine results and how many people find/found this site from its name. Now all the people coming here from google are going to be straw chewing peach farmers who drive Chevy's......not a good business move!

Oracle12345 04-05-2009 12:15 AM

haha

Things might get interesting around here

curlytom 04-05-2009 12:20 AM

Maybe we can move the So. Cal. GTG to San Francisco and join the Gay Pride Parade while proudly wearing our overly tight peachparts.com Tee shirts…

pawoSD 04-05-2009 12:23 AM

Maybe I'll buy up some of those better domains in a quick-buck business move! :D :D

MBZForum.com here I come. ;)

Squiggle Dog 04-05-2009 12:29 AM

What's in a name? Would a mercedesshop.com by any other name smell as sweet? Sweet as a Georgia peach?

bob_98sr5 04-05-2009 01:15 AM

peachparts? egads.

anyone from the 90210 era...ring any bells?!? :)

seriously, while i am eternally grateful for the forum, peachparts...unless there is a hidden meaning only known to the truly senior members here, its a little light in the loafers

H-townbenzoboy 04-05-2009 02:20 AM

As for the Georgia thing again, they always could've called it "PeanutParts.com." Then, we'd have folks trying to sell a car in the for sale forum that runs on Peanut Oil dervied WVO and was supposedly owned by a descendant of George Washington Carver, with shiny door handles detailed by peanut butter (yes, peanut butter does shine up one's door handles, look it up on the forum!)

But of course, United Features Syndicate may sue because it sounds too close to the name of a certain popular comic strip that the creator didn't even want as the strip's name, lol.

Sorry funola, the domain name registry has never worked this way. Its always been a case of more money or better stated rationalization for ownership trumps their own rules.. until they finally changes the rules to match.

As for peachparts.com, yeah, it does sound kinda gay to me too. So unrelated that I thought the site or DNS servers had been hacked, until it still hadn't changed by today.

I hope the plan is to temporarily park the site at this name until a more related domain name can be selected. If this isn't the plan because of cost, let us know and we'll organize a collection or something.

JimmyL 04-05-2009 10:16 AM

You know, this isn't a bit about how wimpish the forum domain name is, at least in it's relating to a certain lifestyle.
We all know how to get here.
This is awful for the folks who buy a Mercedes, or inherit one, and want to find out information on it, and start learning about its history and how to repair it.
They will Google Mercedes and have many choices. We will show up somewhere because of the times Mercedes is utilized on the forum, but the people will have many choices and look at all the domain names: Peachparts will sound like your generic dime-a-dozen parts supplier and they will find their way to Benzworld!!!
Fastlane is already having to overcome some of the highest prices on the web, but some folks pay it because the service is about as good as it gets. New viewers won't know about this fantastic service, they will see the prices and will bail. Folks seeking info will see Peachparts.com and move right on to the next option.
This is such a poor choice........:(:(

I hope Mr. Wood will consider some of this. I won't keep beating this dead horse......:deadhorse:

Perhaps if we put this in our signatures, it will help. I just can't imagine this being permananent unless he wants the site to fail.

mobetta 04-05-2009 11:48 AM

well, at least the first half page of stickies is gone............

but the name sucks...................

why not fastlane.com or allpartsexpress.com or something less fruity.

crap, thats right... I had those mercedesshop.com grill badges.

looks like a lot of people missed out on those.

charmalu 04-05-2009 01:37 PM

Yeah I have one of those grill badges, thanks or getting them made. we that have them. better keep an eye on them at the GTG`s :).

Mercedes Benz should not punish the people that love their cars. I know about copy right laws and all that.
It seems to me that they are getting free advertising with us promoting and praising how well built their product is.
we are not using their name to produce some aftermarket product. It was the w123 and w126 that first cought my eye a number of years ago. It wasn`t until I bought the w123 that I realised what a great design it is, and the way it handles. never had a vehicle that was so well put together.

I wonder how many people because of this Forum, bought their first MB? Or for that matter, new MB?

The waters have been muddied up a bit now, but will eventually clear and the peach name might be dropped for one enhancing this Site/Forum. Just give it time.

Now back to my peach Smoothie Iam sipping on :D

Sure, but with all the peanut allergies, that would never work. :D

RML 04-05-2009 04:00 PM

I just want to know:

1) Where did the name Peachparts come from?
2) Why there cannot be a poll taken to decide on a permanent name?

pawoSD 04-05-2009 04:49 PM

Hey if this forum ends up being doomed from the peachyness, I'll start/host a new forum with a good strong MB type name, and everyone is welcome to drift on over to it. :D

I used to run a discussion forum using PHPbb.....I can run another. :D

Boo to peaches!

At some point, I am assuming the owner of the site had to sit down at the domain registration page, and choose a domain.....why not fastlane.com or fastlaneparts? Or eurofastlane.com?? There are SO many good alternatives!

sixto 04-05-2009 04:59 PM

vonsindelfingen.com

So much for SUVs built in Alabama :)

The owner obviously believes it is none of our business or he would have provided more information in his very brief and vague announcement. Of course that is completely within his rights.
So, all we can do is enjoy the site while it is still viable, and of course we also have those pesky parts buying decisions we will have to make from time to time. ;);)
Through it all I still like peach cobbler........:D What good is Benz cobbler anyway!

No Peaches

I live next door to Georgia, and IMO "Peachtree" is far better than "Peach". By the way, if you drive up I85 into SC, there is a big peach water tower by the side of the highway...

I must admit. this is funny.

I'd take off my performance products vynil and put a peachparts.com, right below my Equality Ohio sticker, no no stickers on the paint, all on glass... and proudly wear a peachparts.com shirt, altho, on the back we should put, formally mercedesshop.com. just sayin.

I also like the pole idea, this will sort itself out, and when my W124 was delivered by the dealership today, the salesman said something about following said issue.

Since the name change, I've heard Fastlane has been using it to store a bunch of parts.

We should have windshield decals reading "A Peachparts Product" with the site owner's signature.

Radiator crests would be more difficult.
