IMPORTANT........PEACHPARTS DOMAIN NAME CHANGE.....ALL MEMBERS READ!!

Due to unfortunate circumstances in the battle to keep the domain name "Mercedesshop.com", the webmaster has decided to change the name to www.peachparts.com.

You'll notice that the current page is now under the new domain name and all bookmarks for Mercedesshop.com will be redirected to peachparts.com

Kindly change your existing bookmarks for Mercedesshop to reflect the new name..........the redirect won't be around forever.

B.C.

p.s.: The existing stickies will be returned in several weeks. The importance of this situation takes precedence.

JimmyL 04-04-2009 12:29 AM

Can't fight the big boys I guess. At least not cost effectively.
We sure have been domain-name neutered........

I tell friends that I hang out at Mercedesshop.com. Peachparts.com just doesn't have the same ring........

Well, when you get right down to it, I'm just glad I still have this place to come to!!

PanzerSD 04-04-2009 12:34 AM

Oh god, that is so GAY!! WHY? and who took mercedeshop.com! I'll break their knees! Can't we just GoDaddy Mercedeshop.com??

ForcedInduction 04-04-2009 12:38 AM

PeachParts? There wasn't a better (how PanzerSD put it) less "gay" name available? Nothing even automotive related?

What about MercedeShop.com? How do they get to keep their domain name? They offer service and sell parts too!

Our german friends have way more money than Bill.........the little guy always loses.

DeliveryValve 04-04-2009 12:42 AM

Agreed with the Gay assessment.

MerzShop.com is available... Better grab it fast before someone does!

PanzerSD 04-04-2009 12:46 AM

Oh, so it was a copyright thing with Mercedes Benz?? I would have to capitulate to that one. But seriously, something even remotely related at least??
Dreistern.com (tri-star in German) I suppose the ETM on another Mercedes website is next on the list for (c) infringement? Peachparts...almost sounds like a name for a porn site. MBShop.com is also available.

PS: CRAP, I remembered, I had the sign guy next door to my shop on the hook to make me cool smoked glass decals that say Mercedesshop.com! Hope he hasn't made them up yet, or I'm out $40.

And why is this posted only in the Diesel discussion??

rhodes2010 04-04-2009 12:55 AM

I am eternally grateful for this site, whatever it is called.

Everything everyone has done, and everything that is does for me
are beyond any amount I could possibly ever offer.

And peachparts it is...... but even germancars.org could possibly have
worked.....

Maybe there is a story behind the name peachparts ?

At least we could get a chuckle.

Thanks to everyone.

POS 04-04-2009 12:56 AM

PeachParts? Cripes.

TylerH860 04-04-2009 01:00 AM

I will give you my domain... Silverstar1000.com

Naah, we would be inundated with Audi and VW owners:smartass:

pawoSD 04-04-2009 01:05 AM

Not so sure on the "peachparts" idea.....surely there are many alternatives!

TylerH860 04-04-2009 01:05 AM

I'm ecstatic you were able to save the forum, but how are we going to get new people with peachparts.com as the domain name... Has the internet really run out of domain names? I'm concerned the new domain name is going to put the future of the site in serious jeopardy.

charmalu 04-04-2009 01:09 AM

OH peachy, now I have to turn in my grill badge???

How about GERMANIRON.COM ? Maybe we can all submit names and throw them into the hat and see what comes up.

You would think Mercedes Benz would be honored we hold their cars with such high regard.

Just think about all the people that come and go looking at this forum, some that have quit and might want to come back and register. we will never be found again .

How long has the mercedesshop.com name been used, since the forum started? took them long enough to put the kabosh on it.

Charlie

It looks that way, I just ran a bunch of possible alternatives through a site checker....all taken. Yikes.

So is Daimler AG going to buy up/lock away the Mercedesshop.com domain?

MBAUTOPARTS.BIZ is available! :D

How about a ridiculous name....like "germanautoswithathreepointstaronthehood-shop.com" :D :D I checked, its available!!!

http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/registrar/search.asp?domainToCheck=germanautoswithathreepointstaronthehood-shop&tld=.COM&checkAvail=1&ci=12014

TylerH860 04-04-2009 01:15 AM

I went and got a few scoops of peach sherburt to console myself.

pawoSD 04-04-2009 01:23 AM

I'm going to guess the name came from the company's location being in the "peach state"......but still.....

How come other sites like "mercedes(anti-censorTM)source.com" and stuff are able to keep going? Did Daimler just decide to pick on this one?

Censoring competitors sites? I guess.....

Lycoming-8 04-04-2009 01:25 AM

Isn't the home office of our Sponsor in Georgia?? Sometimes known as the Peach state. Probably the story!!

Almost a duplicate..........

TylerH860 04-04-2009 01:31 AM

Isn't there a contact address that a lot of people could complain to about this? Numbers speak!

compu_85 04-04-2009 01:46 AM

Ya no kidding. I knew VW did this kind of garbage, but not Mercedes. Oh well, I guess zie Germans never liked a loyal fanbase anyway :dizzy2:

TylerH860 04-04-2009 01:48 AM

I am really concerned this site is going to whither and eventually die with this completely unrelated domain name.

Me too.....it needs to at least be somewhat related to cars/mb's.....and parts.....

Peachparts? Makes us sound like a community of gay Mercedes owners…

H-townbenzoboy 04-04-2009 03:39 AM

If you want to associate it with Georgia, why not name it PeachtreeParts.com? Hmmm, nah, then it'll sound like it's only for Atlanta area MB owners only.

Need corporate sponsorship? Call up the guys at Big Red, makers of this fine soda product.:P

There may have been a sizable numerical payoff, if you think about it......

funola 04-04-2009 07:58 AM

Did Bill forget to pay his domain name registry fee and lost it? I thought as long as you're paid up nobody can take it away from you? They can offer to buy it from you but only if you consent to it. Did he sell it for beaucoup $ for an early retirement? :)

oh yeah I wanna know how in hell peachparts.com came about too!

It would appear that Daimler AG filed a complaint/suit against him for having a domain with their name in it.....and they won in the decision.

All of the "targeted ads" on the site have switched to offers for peach trees!

Dee8go 04-04-2009 09:26 AM

I can't believe this. With as much good will as this site has to be generating for Mercedes, you would think they'd be payng you guys to keep it up. I can't imagine why they would make you stop using "Mercedes" as a part of the name.

I agree, "Peachparts" does sound rather gay, not that there's anyting wrong with being gay . . .

I'm guess ing the "peach" part has something to do with a connection to Georgia. Am I right?

POS 04-04-2009 09:37 AM

Gotta be something better than PeachParts. One of the rules of online domains is that you pick a name that explains who you are - you don't want customers to have to click just to find out who you are because 80% of them won't do it.

Really. PeachParts? It's gonna kill future "customers".

They did not win the decision. The decision is not yet handed down. Bill chose a negotiated settlement due to the protracted legal costs that would be ongoing..........if he won the decision. There's just not enough money to fight them.

KAdams4458 04-04-2009 10:13 AM

Oh, this is just peachy!

Sorry, someone had to do it. :P

Well that part makes perfect sense, but Peachparts.....

mplafleur 04-04-2009 10:16 AM

So who do I complain to... every day for the rest of my life!

Come on! How about MBParts.com?

Is anything happening to **************, Mercedescomplete or Benzworld?

Why did I get ************* for M e r c e d e s s o u r c e???

It is a competitor, or seen as one by the webmaster, so it is blocked automatically. I just use Mercedes$ource if I want to mention them.

Sometimes the world we live in seems quite silly to us simple folks.

Chad300tdt 04-04-2009 10:31 AM

It really is upsetting.:( It gives cause for everyone with a Benz obsession to wonder who's next.

bgkast 04-04-2009 10:34 AM

There has got to be a better domain name than peachparts. I know it was a pain to switch domain names, but I really think the new one is going to loose alot of people for the site.

Example: www.fastlaneparts.com is avaiable, I can buy it right now for $10

LUVMBDiesels 04-04-2009 10:53 AM

What is next MB putting an injunction against naming your daughter Mercedes?

What exactly happened? Was the domain name simply hijacked by an @sshole? I had one of my domains secondshift.com hijacked a few years ago. Or was this a legal thing between MB and the site?

If the name was hijacked Mercedesshop.org is available.

I just saw that mercedesshop.net redirects to http://www.schumanautomotive.com/forums/!

Looks like the dark side of the force is trying to take over the name...

EDIT:
Just read the posts about the injunction....

How about changing it to TRISTARCARS.NET? That is available and kinda makes sense...

The ongoing fight with M/B over anything related to the Mercedes-Benz name in the domain was just too costly for Bill.

Oracle12345 04-04-2009 10:59 AM

peachparts, sounds like a website for growing peaches, nothing to related a mercedes..

moon161 04-04-2009 12:33 PM

I dissagree with the 'gay' assesment. I'd go with 'Super!'.

Same thing happened years ago with "forddiesel" now called "thedieselstop" Everyone is afraid of loosing their trademark crap.

I do not care what you call it, within reason (got to get through the filters at work and home). Just make sure you get good at getting it high in the search engine list, as this new name has nothing to do with cars, or parts, at first glance.
