Occasional no start

I have noticed over the past few days that when i go to start the car nothing happens.

Here is my normal procedure for starting the car. IE: unlock the car, get in the car, put key in ignition, turn key to glow, wait until glow light goes out, count 10 seconds or until glow relay kicks off, turn key to start position and start the car. When the car is warm I just wait for the glow light to go out and go.

The no start condition happens both hot and cold now. Today I noticed that if I rack the gear selector back and forth a few times the car will start every time after the no start condition.

Is there a switch down on the gear selector somewhere? Any other ideas?
