AC compressor belt install, please help

Hello members, I am less experienced and short on tools so please keep things in simple language for me, BUT I would really appreciate any advice from the wise members of this forum...
My mechanic encouraged me to try installing my own new AC compressor belt. I followed directions and finally wrestled the new belt on, tightened the PS belt I had to move, tightened two of 3 bolts on the compressor, then realized the third was backed all the way out and impossible to align.
Frustration sets in.....
Now I have taken everything back apart, including taking the belts off. I finally aligned that longest third bolt. The other two are now completely loose and I still cannot get the belt around both pulleys.

Is there any trick to getting the new compressor belt on???

Should I have all 3 bolts started before attaching the belt?

Thanks
