87sdl with steering wheel locked.jiggling key had unlocked it last night.this morning locked again and no amount of jiggling or pressure on steering wheel budges it.any ideas ?

This happens time to time on my 83 sd, just keep jiggling, flip the key around and jiggle.

I suspect that my key and / or switch is worn and sometimes doesn't want to cooperate. Some graphite dust "lube" should do the trick.

Probably the ignition cylinder BUT sometimes it's the ignition switch itself. Remove the cylinder and see if you get similar resistance using a screw driver to turn the switch. If it's the cylinder take your title and hit the dealer to order a new cylinder and key.

It is a known problem with MBZ ignition key. If you can jiggle it loose then you have a prayer in removing the lock cylinder easily with a special tool. ( you can make one if necessary), otherwise it is a lot of work, check out here.
