Ignition switch woes

My trusty w123 is having some starting issues. I have to wiggle the key back and forthquite a few times to get the starter to finaly crank up.

It`s as if the switch is not turning on or maybe the starter selenoid is not catching on.

At first it would occasionaly take a few hits of the key to get the motor to start but now it is every single time I tried to start it.

I have to play with the key for sometime up to a minute to get the starter motor to engage.

I am thinking it`s gotta be the ignition switch rather than the selenoid. Short of buying a new ignition switch, anythign I should try? I was to keep a matching kep set and all.

The key turns, yet the starter does make a noise?
Maybe a failing Neutral Start Switch.

sounds like an issue with the ignition switch, behind the key. I had issues with one, when the vac pump failed and it got oil in it.

You might try jumpering the appropriate terminals in the small junction box on the passenger fenderwell. If that causes the starter to operate, it pretty much rules out the starter or solenoid, and tends to point to the key switch and/or the NSS. Believe the appropriate terminals are the two outer ones, but it has been covered here on the forum before.
