Yes it can get warm there can`t it.

I have a 85 300D. just took a look at mine, there are two switches. one on top and the lower switch on the side of the rec/drier.

Top switch activates the AC fan. mine has 2 black wires coming off the switch. the wire harness has a blue and a brown wire, and is tied back into the main harness behind the drier. In other words it loops behind the drier and runs up the fender towards the Battery.

The lower switch on the side of the drier has 2 flat spades, which 2 blue wires from the harness plug together into the left spade.
these run up the fender and tie into the main harness behind the coolant tank.
there is another seperate wire that is also blue, that connects to the right spade. this wire also connects back into the main harness that runs behind the drier.

I had to do a correction here, I didn`t realize there were the 3 blue wires involved here.

Hope this helps.

Charlie

diesel giant has a pictorial of AC system flushing on his website.( try googling it) you basically undo the expansion valve ( above passengers feet), the R/D and the compressor. flush,( both the evap and out thru the 2 lines to the engine bay.
Then blow clean dry air thru, and replace all orings, seals, valve, R/D, compressor, belts, freon, etc.....

Do not flush the compressor except with the oil that you are going to be using in the system.
