Just thought I'd update.

I changed a bit early back to the Mobil 1 5W-40 (magically restocked at dreaded Walmart for $22/Gal.) Engine sounds MUCH SMOOTHER than it did with the single weight oil from the minute I started it up. It's quieter on the highway too with the engine running just under 100c. I'm guessing the 40W is better with the higher temps.

My filter was very clean when I replaced it, but the oil itself looked worse than the last M1 I had in for 6K plus!

I will not make the mistake of buying SAE 30 or any single weight oil again. Technology is a good thing, even for old cars.

I should also mention that I checked the oil at the store to make sure the seals were intact, then I went and grabbed some deoderant because it was also cheap there. Turns out my oil was fine, but the two deoderants were both open and the dispenser busted. God I hate that store!
