Simple (I hope) brake question
I have read a lot of pros/cons on A-1 Cardone parts, mostly related to electrical rebuilds.
What is the opinion of the forum on A-1 Cardone reman brake calipers?

They're alright but I wouldn't recomend them. I bought a set of rear calipers for my 1979 W123. One week after installing them the left side started leaking, so I returned it and got a replacement. Then about 6 months later the right one started to drag just a tiny bit, and then after a few weeks was fine so I didn't bother taking the time to remove it and exchange it.

I recently went with....NuGeon brand re manufactured rear calipers....they seemed to be of excellent quality....and very low price. I did some research and they are a huge company out on CA with a good reputation....so far the calipers are working excellent....and they looked brand new when I opened the box, even the hardware came in a little sealed bag, all shiny and new. The brakes feel amazing with them....you never realize how much the rear brakes assist until you have strong working ones! I can practically drag a chunk of road with me if I slam on the brakes! I obtained them through....another online retailer.....so....can't say who.....just look around.
Oh, and I bet Cardone would work fine too, I almost went with them from Autozone but found the NuGeon ones for quite a bit less $$ (18 less apiece)

I went with a pair of cardone calipers in my SD and haven't had any problems with them. I have used them in many different cars that I have worked on, and used to sell the things when I was working wholesale. The one thing I have consistently seen is that sometimes they mix up the sides - meaning they put a LEFT caliper into a RIGHT caliper box. The only difference is the location of the bleeder/hose. If you go to a parts store, bring the old caliper with you to verify...plus you can get your core charge back right there. Haven't heard of the NuGeons, but I'm interested.

Thanx for the responses, I guess it adds up to them having quality control issues.
As you might guess from my location, walk in suppliers are thin on the ground, so this is all on-line stuff, and I am on the wrong side of the border for Phil, so all input is welcome before acquiring any parts.

Autopartsway Canada is a source for parts I use occasionally. Free shipping on orders above 75.00 in Canada. Usually some form of courier service for delivery so speed is usually reasonable. Check their prices for comparion on the web.
Cost of shipping because of weight usually makes these a hard item to pay shipping on. |
