|
Parking/Turn Signal Light Comes On
The left Parking/Turn Signal light of one of my 300d's is comes on when I turn the parking or headlights on. Is this an indication that there is something wrong with the bulb?

This is usually caused by a bad ground at one of the exterior lamps, feeding current back from the parking lamp (or filament) through the turn signal lamp (or filament) to the dashboard. If it's a dual-filament bulb, it could even be that the bulb base is corroded and not making a good contact to the lamp assembly.

If yours is a European spec model, there should be no light on the corner lights. Rather there should be city lights on the main headlight reflector.
If it is a US spec model the city lights do not exist, and therefore the corner lights act as these park lights. One click to the right of the headlight knob should turn both sides on already. Unless you meant the light on the dash instrument cluster itself?

I assumed instrument cluster. But even if it's not, lamps coming on that aren't supposed to still points to a bad ground.
Ever see someone driving around with one taillamp which looks just slightly dimmer than the other, and completely goes out when he hits the brakes? That's the same problem.

cluster light on and also exterior lamp. I'll chk the lamp if it's set properly and for any corrosion.. and also the ground.

Disconnect the electrical to the front lamp assembly and see if the condition remains. If so, disconnect the rear and try again. If it clears, you have found where the current is feeding back, and it is the ground at that corner that is the issue. Alternatively, find the two ground points for the front and rear lamp assemblies and remove and clean them.

That solves my problem, too. Thanks!
I cleaned the gnds behind the instrument cluster which solved the bouncy needle problem, but still had the turn signal indicators come on instead of the guage background lights. Now will go check and clean grounds at the lights themselves. Thanks a lot!
