Bad Brake Pads
I've been experiencing a grinding sound whenever I brake on one of my front brake pads recently and finally decided to replace it yesterday. The pads were only worn about 1/3. They were Jurid brand. I replaced them with AZ's $13.99 Duralast LLT and grinding noise gone.
Can't say if the Jurid's caused the problem but I don't think am gonna be getting them again.

Rust embedded in the pads will cause noise. Rust forms on the rotor when you stop, especially if you park the car when the rotors are wet and not very hot. Then it embeds into the pad surface when you next use the brakes. It will go away by itself (usually). It isn't a function of the brand of pad.

Did you see any gouging on the rotor surface?

No gouging or grooves on rotor. Noticed pad was ladend with dust. The Jurid was not one solid piece. There was a vertical gap between and lots of brake dust in the gap. Possible this cuased the grinding noise.
I've had this b4 on my Caravan when I used pads that had gaps or holes on the pads. Dust gets in the holes and affects the braking and the rotors. So may be the lesson here is to just get solid surface pads - not the ones with gaps or holes.

My cars both have cross drilled rotors on all 4 that shuttle away all the dust, especially under heavier braking. You can actually hear the sound of gas/heat going through the little holes off of the pads.
