Are all USA W123 Diesel 300TD Wagons Turbo?

I am in the market for a w123 Wagon. I've tossed up the idea of putting my good 87 300d's om603 in a gas wagon W124 body since a good w124 diesel wagon is hard to come by and I know my 603's history. But I think for simplicities sake I'm going to go back to a w123 wagon.

So.... what to look for....

Are all the w123 300TD wagons turbo diesel? I think w123 300TD wagons went from 1978 - 1985 is that correct?

thanks!

Seems like I've seen an 80 with Turbo. I know that for SURE the w116 300SD was Turbo in 1980 because I have owned one. I think I've seen an 80 TD for sale with a Turbo Diesel.

The S-class (W126) cars got the turbodiesel before the "pre-E" class (W123). AFAIK, all W123 diesel estate wagons imported into the USA got the turbodiesel engine. Not sure about pre-81, did MB import a 617NA wagon or did they not import wagons at all before '81?

1979,was a non turbo US wagon, later on wagon got the turbo and sedan and coupes got in 1981.Local MB dealer in my area had a 1979 wagon for sale with 30k original miles, they wanted 16700$ for the car...however,their clients have 7 digits yearly incomes,so,they probably found a customer.

I looked up WikiPedia's word on W123s an it was a little confusing but I think it said ALL Wagons are turbo (USA). I think that's what it's saying. I don't know how reliable it is though.

USA wagon got turboed in 1981, while the sedan, and coupe both got turboed in 1982.
I've seen a bunch of US-spec wagons from 79 and 80 all were N/A

there were 2 300TD turbos made in 1979. In 1980 1,852 300TD turbos were made.

A neighbor down the street has what appears to be a NA w123 wagon. I say appear because it clearly states "DIESEL" on the hatch. It's old and used up, repainted, basically a driving parts car...has us bumpers, no sunroof and the old skool non-split folding rear seat. Not 100% sure its a US model vs euro...but appears to be a US model.

Anybody else counting the "T"s.......

I think any wagons from '80 with a turbo were badged as 1981. Look far and wide; 79 and '80 wagons will be non-turbo, 81-85 will have the turbo [yet only one "T"]

I agree that 79 and 80 models are NA and later years are turbo. The article is a little misleading as the engine is not identical to the SD engine since they cannot be interchanged due to the SLS pump in the head of the TD engine. John Lennon owned a 79 I believe
I have pencil plugs in my 79SD. Has anyone seen a W116 SD with loop plugs? Why did the wagon not get the pencil plugs until August 80?
What was happening between 81 and 85 causing the drops in production? Off the top of my head, I can't account for it.
